6001 Manchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78745
This is an informal study group hosted by AWMA in Garrison Park, Austin. We discuss & practice the basics of longsword, single sword, sword & buckler, dagger, and wrestling. We also provide guidance in enabling individuals to pursue their own studies.
Study Group dues for non-AWMA Central members is $25/mo. and includes insurance coverage, gear use, weekly Sunday study sessions, and one optional Foundations class per month at AWMA Central.
Sessions are held every Sunday, 10AM to 12PM.
In addition to the official AWMA school, we are proud to support other local HEMA groups. These AWMA-affiliated groups are clubs and schools that have partnered with AWMA to help ensure quality of instruction across Central Texas.
If you live in the Central Texas area and are interested in starting or becoming an AWMA-affiliated group, please contact us here.
New Braunfels Historical Fencing Club
250 S. Grape Ave, New Braunfels, TX 78130
NBHFC, run by Kevin Beahan and Connor Dillon, studies Joachim Meyer’s Art of Combat, written in 1570. Training includes the longsword, dussack, rapier, and dagger.
NBHFC uses a lesson structure similar to the AWMA and Storm of Steel, so students from either organization can expect quality instruction at both. Don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re exactly the same, though. These guys have their own, awesome style of teaching and it’s worth training with them whenever possible.
Storm of Steel Fencing Society
4300 North Bicentennial Blvd, McAllen, Texas 78504
Storm of Steel is led by Eddie Lopez and Dirk Yarker, who study techniques described by Joachim Meyer, Johannes Liechtenauer, and MS I.33. Training includes longsword, rapier, dagger, saber, and sword & buckler.
With a lesson structure similar to AWMA's, Storm of Steel also supports quality instruction across schools. The folks here are a riot on and off the fencing floor, and getting to training with them is an exceptional opportunity.
